Major energy sources in Sri Lanka are biomass, hydro electricity and petroleum . These energy sources are hardly
inadequate to meet the demand energy requirement in the country. But the contribution from alternate energy
sources such solar power and wind power is insignificant.
The long-term sustainability of the electricity sector is being threatened by delays in implementing new low cost
power plants. Since petroleum would become a very scarce resource in the future "Solar Power" will be the long time
strategy and the best alternative to generate electricity.
